Hoshin, in Japanese , means "compass". It is a guide whose objective is to reach the "just in time", what means to produce only what the client wants, in the asked quantity and within the stipulated time, increasing, in this way, our efficiency and our productivity.
The Hoshin work study involves a series of preparation activities (to measure the time, to calculate the improvement potentials,to analyse the logistical flows, to revise indicators, etc...), development of the study with all the people involved, establishment of new work standards, changes in jobs , cyclical replacement of components, and besides, if it is possible, the implementation of kanban manufacturing systems.
Finally, a plan of actions has to be stablished in order to implement the improvements agreed by the group, and their later monitoring.
