ESTABLISHING AN INDICATOR TO OPTIMIZE THE INTALLATIONS AND EQUIPMENTS

Indicators are the clue to be able to qualify the machines benefit percentage although, it's even more important to measure the losses and in what concepts we lose efficiency ( breakdowns, changes, faulty pieces, microstops, slow-downs...

the problem:

NOT TO KNOW WHICH IS REALLY EFFICIENCY OF OUR EQUIPMENT

It's a very important to know to what degree machines are profitably used, because their operating costs are, in most cases, higher than the cost of labour by the hour.

Besides, the taken of decisions to buy new equipments, will depend, in some way, on the profit we take of the present equipment.

.

our solution:

The solution to this problem is to establish an indicator (OEE, TRS, etc.).

Indicators are the clue to be able to qualify the machines benefit percentage although, it's even more important to measure the losses and in what concepts we lose efficiency ( breakdowns, changes, faulty pieces, microstops, slow-downs, etc).

The OEE (Overall Equipment Efficiency o Eficiencia General de los Equipos) is an efficency indicator which determines the degree of profit of the machine during the operating shifts. Three concepts take part: availability, efficiency and quality.

.
the oee

The TRS is a similar indicator which measures the machine output the twenty-four hours a day (pieces made, multiplied by their time cycle vs the 24 hours of the day).

This indicator is very recommendable in case of having to take decisions for new investments.  That means, before investing, we must optimize and improve the efficiency of the current machines. To get it, we must reduce the changes time, improve the work standars, increase the number of goog pieces done at first try, stops because of lack of materials, etc.
